GLEIC Continuing Education Policy

Overview

Many fields have professional licenses that require continuing education for renewing the license. Requirements for the minimum number of continuing education hours that must be attained differ by profession and by state. Continuing education should assist the professional in maintaining or improving his/her skills in the area of expertise or professional practice. In many cases, the professional is allowed to determine which of the many qualifying events to attend to meet requirements for continuing education. Events that are approved for meeting continuing education will include a statement about the eligible continuing education hours in the flyer and/or advertising material. For specific requirements, please consult your profession's licensing board and your state's regulations on licensing.

Record Keeping

Most states require licensed professionals to retain records or the training events used to meet their continuing education requirements. Advertisements and certificates of completion issued by the Great Lakes Environmental Infrastructure Center (GLEIC) provide all of the information necessary to meet these requirements. If, however, you are missing either a certificate of completion or required information for a specific training event, contact us and we will work with you to provide the necessary information.

The GLEIC recommends using this Continuing Education Hours Log Sheet to record the training details. Please verify the information required by your state and, if necessary, record any additional information that your state may require.

Webinar/Training Policy

In order to receive a certificate of completion for attending a GLEIC webinar/training, individuals must meet both of the following requirements:

  • Be registered for the event through the GLEIC’s office or website. For webinars, registration needs to be completed before the end of the webinar and each registrant is responsible for applicable charges for the webinar regardless of how many (or few) connections are used.
  • Have their attendance verified at the sign-in table (on-site events) or by filling out the sign-in form (webinars). The webinar sign-in form (shown below) is available as a PDF download in the File Share pod at the beginning of the webinar; it must be signed and returned (email or fax) within 24 hours of the webinar start time.

Recordings of Training Events

The GLEIC often produces recordings of webinars and conferences. However, the GLEIC only issues certificates for live events; the GLEIC does not issue certificates for watching recordings of webinars or training videos.
